Hello all! I was writing to see if anyone knew about teacher's health care benefits on either STT or STX. I am still very interested in coming down to teach, so I am trying to find out as much as possible.
Since I am on the topic of teaching, how does substitute teaching work on the islands? Is there high a high demand?

Thanks in advance!

The territorial government's insurance is Cigna. It is probably one of the best perks of government employment. Well, besides the 26 + holidays. 😉 There have been ads lately for substitute teachers at Antilles, a private school on St Thomas. I don't know how it works for the public schools, but I know that they were required to try to get substitutes by the accrediting agency.

Here's the link to benefits for public school teachers : http://www.teachusvi.net/other_benefits.htm

There are even downloadable PowerPoints on the Health and Life Insurance benefits.

You can also get Vision Insurance and MASA (Medical Air Services Association) discounts for Gvt. employees.
