I was wondering the skinny about teaching jobs on STX? My girlfriend has a masters from boston college in english lit. She is fluent in italian and spanish, and has held teaching jobs in all three. How available are the teaching jobs and will they make a decent income? I have read some posts, but feel i need something more. She still has some loans to pay off. Links or tips would be great. Thanks all!

At best your looking at $28k from a teaching job. Which would mean she'd be working very hard to make ends meet. Not uncommon for teachers to have second jobs.

Read more posts...some is not enough, especially is you are serious about moving here. You will not find a better resource.

That's about what I expected, i was hoping a bit more for her level of education. I'm sure it's not much more for administration level either. Well, i don't mind being poor, niether does she, just gotta make ends meet. Thanks for the info. We both make a mean cocktail btw, although i'm sure all make that claim, haha! Take it easy!

BTW, was that a private salary, or a public one?

Any teacher coming to the VI Public can receive up to 10 years of credit. So you might want to review the salary scale with the human resource represenative assigned to your application to determine what your salary might be. Most people explaine to inquiring teachers that the salary is $28k. That salary is refering to first year teachers in the professiion.

Oh! also there is an additional amount if you have a masters or PHD/EDD, or BA plus

Thanks, I went to the Dept of ed web site and it was all there. 30K for first year with a masters, sad but true. It's the same thing for cops and firefighters, so sad!
