I am a native Texan and I am hoping, considering, planning, dreaming, and trying my best to devise a plan, a viable, workable way to become a USVI resident. I am leaning toward St. Croix and hoping to open and run a small B&B. Any advise will be appreciated. It is such a hugh undertaking that I am, at times, thinking that I am mad or just dreaming. But, other Texans have made the big move, why not I? I have heard of the Texas Society. What? Who? Where? How do you qualify to belong?
Info, please? Thanks, Sharon

Sharon,

I do not know if there is a Texas Society in St. Croix.

The Texas Society in St. Thomas seems to have as its main purpose the organization of the annual Chili Cook-Off. It is a great party, on a beach, and the winner gets -- you guessed it -- a trip to compete at the REAL cook-off in Terlingua. This event is usually in late September.

There are, indeed, lots of Texas transplants in St. Thomas and St. Croix. I suspect it's because of the cool weather. 😉

On another matter, I'd re-think moving down and opening a B&B, until after you have been here a while. Running any business here is much different than stateside. Come down, get a job working for someone else and do the learning on their nickel. Just a thought.

Good luck!
