So...... What did you think about STX? Is it what you thought? Has anything changed your mind/re-inforced your thoughts? Having just come back from the PMV, what advice do you have for the rest of us soon making our PMV... things to make sure to check out/don't forget about....

What thoughts did it leave you with? More questions to be answered or were you satisfied with what you found out?

Did you go with specific goals for this trip or was it just to get a feeling of the island?

Did you plan to / or did you end up cementing any plans? Like did you job or housing search? How close to your potential move is this PMV?

Can you tell I am a little anxious about my upcoming PMV? I just realized today that it is just 37 days away!!! That both entices and scares the crap out of me. Now, all of a sudden, I am getting the "Am I making a mistake" thoughts. They aren't necessarily mine, but what some people are saying. But you have a time when you wonder.

But then I remember my good friend who suddenly died at 40. I vowed I wouldn't pass up opportunities that came along. And that I would DO things that I have always wanted to but kept saying "someday".

Details, Details, Details.... I want details!!!

Thanks
Linda from Michigan

Hi Linda,
Wow, I'll do my best. Pior to my pmv I was 90% sure i would be moving to St.Criox. My piorities in the pre-move were to determine if work and housing were available. I'am a licenced master plumber and have been in heavy construction all my life. Both are available
There are also rooms and apts not normally requested on this post.
I came to St. Croix with a totally open mind with no expectations.
The first day was a little iffy thinking what have I gotten myself into but that quickly disappeared and by the second day I felt right at home. I've been traveling the caribbean for 30 years so I'am fairly at ease there. The thing I did was to understand I would be living on this island and to get the real feel of the place you must try to live the way and among the people who live there. you don't get the feel of a place by staying at the tourist hotel and it's environs.
St Croix is, I found, very americanized, so much so that I found it difficult to believe I was on an island.
I stopped for drinks at little bars along the street as well as the bars by the water I never had any problem at all. Everyone was very nice and helpful. I walked the streets at night, drove to places at night, no problem. I would guess you as well as many others on this post worry about crime. I read the crime blotter everyday in the paper and it was no different than here were I live in Virginia Beach. As a matter of fact crime is much worst here. Yes tourists get robbed once in a while but common sense is the best defense against that.
By the way I stayed in Christiansted. I did however tour the entire island.
I did'nt spend much time in Fredericksted as I was happy with Christiansted.
If you stay in Christiansted or nearby as soon as you can go to Shenanigans for breakest or lunch and stop at the Fort Christian Brew Pub, local people and the places will make you feel connected.
(they're down by the boardwalk, maps are available everywhere)
All in all it was a positive experience and I will be moving there as soon as I can settle things here which will be a matter of months.
I'll write more soon.
PS. I'am one of those people who should have moved to the islands 30 years ago and for the life of me I can,t remember what the reason was why I did'nt.
One Love.........................Ironman
