Treasure hunting???

Hi everybody.
Does somebody from everybody knows local rules and laws regarding treasure hunting and metal detecting? It's clear to me that I can't leave holes after I leave and that I can't search on privet properties or in the middle of the road on Waterfront next to the Green House. I am interested to know if there are some restriction. Magens Bay has sign not to bring a detectors but some guy told me that after 5 pm is OK and that's not enough to put my head in a tiger's head. What place I can call to ask this crucial question?
Thanks.

Greetings Clown...

The only information I could confirm was no searching in the following areas:
National Parks
Military sites/bases
Historical landmarks
Private properity (without permission)

I would check with the National Park Service, or Ranger for an up to date local policy on detectors. I have seen people searching on all three island beaches over the years, but never asked what the rules were. Maybe Islander has more..
