Hi Everyone - This will be our first triathalon on the island and we were wondering what roads/areas are shut down on Sunday and when. We have company coming to town and want to make sure that we plan the day accordingly with the tri. Thanks!!

Kim

You should plan on all main roads being closed from 5:30 am until after 3:00 pm. There will be lots more info in the papers toward the end of the week.

Look at the course maps. The roads effected are primarily in Christiansted and on the east end, The road out of town towards Cane Bay and the Beast should be clear by around Noon.

How tightly the roads are closed varies from year to year.

I know the road at Peters Rest dumpsite has police stopping you if a biker is coming. And in front of Sunny Isle they have police where the bikers are coming from the divided highway going east. If you want to get to the airport from the east end, you would need to leave after about 9:3o or leave before 7.

I am so thrilled they used the Triathon to once again clean up the place!

I vote for more triathalons each year ...and move the route around to roads that need repaired and roadsides that need cleaned up.

Neil -

I feel exactly the same way about the Triathalon causing a cleanup of trash along the route plus the patching of potholes or repaving at least once a year the land route of the Triathalon.

The triathlon committee used to vary the route and direction so that different areas were patched each year. :@)

Kudos to the women who repainted the very faded "Welcome to Christiansted" sign at Bassin Triangle this weekend.
It looks great, and thank you to all who helped spruce up that area around the sign as well !!

This will be my first experience as well. Would like to maybe get some photos of the start but don't know if I can get through. Coming from the East. Is this carried by ESPN or any of the like sports networks? Inquiring minds want to know...
