Voter ID laws and drug testing for Welfare, both proven ineffective and brought to you by the "small government" folks. Small government for them, big government when they can wield it to demonize and disenfranchise the poor and minorities. Murica

Holy Straw Man arguments

Next you'll be complaining about micro-aggressions...

If you do not work a government agency or receive government assistance, do not have a business license, do not have a green card, what other government photo ID would you have if not a driver's license? A passport is the only ID I can think of. I don't see a list of accepter documents on your link.

Do voter registration cards in most states have photo? The banks here (well, Banco Popular) stopped accepting voter registration card as ID for check cashing.

I'm sorry were these laws implemented by BIG government liberal legislatures? No. Do voter ID laws disproportionately affect minorities and the poor. Yeah. They do. The privilege to fly is way different than your right to vote. I guess the poor get to do neither.

R and D are effectively the EXACT SAME THING with different shirts on and a slightly different accent being the only way to differentiate the two..

there are NO "conservatives" in federal politics, there very well might not be any "liberals" (I'm not as familiar with the D's)

Neoliberals and Neoconservatives have perverted not only politics, but language (if you do not meet the definition of "conservative" you are perpetrating fraud by calling your self so).

When did it become open season on Grammar, why do we allow crap like this; it only causes confusion (calling someone a conservative when they are anything but).....

too much deception these days & too many people (unwittingly?) participating in it.

How many VI politicians claimed degrees and didn't have one?

Kenneth Ezra Mapp, for one. He got a certificate from Harvard's Executive Management Program (for high execs and politicians) after serving as LG, yet claims to have a master's from the Kennedy School. LOL.

Truth is, he never even attained a bachelor's degree.

Small government for some, yet telling a person they can't smoke a joint. Get it together, boomers.

That's why us Gen Xers just let the boomers screw it all up and will let the millennialist finish it off.

Micro aggression theory is a new one for me. I won't dismiss its existence. Hard for me to comment on as a white male. I pretty much have it made in the world.

Some states offer a state issued non-driver's license photo ID for those that can't or don't want a "driver's" license. That is the excuse used in some states which have enacted the requirements for photo ID to vote.

38% of US citizens now carry passports which is a huge increase over the mere 3% who carried them in 1974. They still lag way behind citizens of European countries (UK is at 75%). I never understood the apparent reluctance of so many US citizens to apply for passports but obviously the tide is a-changing.

Scubadoo, yes some states do offer a non driver ID, but was told they won't be available in VI until RealID is implemented here.

Europeans travel more than Americans so they need passports more often. Don't know how costs compare, but some families don't want the expense of getting them for young children.

Not necessary to get a passport for a "young child" who can be added into a parent's passport. Passports are valid for 10 years and don't cost an arm and a leg.

Used to be in Europe you needed a passport to go from France to Germany, like going from New Jersey to New York for them, which required a passport. So it's not surprising more Europeans have them. Contrast that to the US which didn't require passports to go to/from Canada until a few years ago. Why spend close to $100 for something you don't need and may never need that will expire in 10 years?

I think that has changed. All children, regardless of age require a passport when travelingi g overseas and they are only valid for 5 years.

Not quite as simple as that. Only within the Schengen area can you travel without a passport but (as happens when traveling from the USVI to the mainland) you may also be asked to provide identification:

http://traveltips.usatoday.com/europeans-need-passport-travel-between-countries-europe-105883.html

The point, though, is that if you ARE traveling where a passport makes that travel easier then just get a passport and stop moaning about it!

True and it's universal now. Guess I'm just so used to having my own passport which I got when I was 16 and hitching around Europe! It's just never been a big deal.

Or one could argue that there is a greater risk in large(r) metropolitan areas that are controlled by Dems - Chicago, Minneapolis, New Orleans, Madison, etc which also happen to have large populations on poor and minorities.

I'm sure you use the same logic wrt disenfranchisement with all the Amendments...

Now if we can only get you to stop your Cultural and socio-economic appropriation and provide trigger warnings as to your hate speech and mansplaining we can further the dialog and address the communities involved

I have never used a drivers license as a form of ID for air travel even once. Why not just get a passport.

The VI benefits because US citizens don't need a passport to visit. Not everybody wants or needs one.
