Deja vu, yes?

haha well turns out the big screen in our living room actually DID work when we got cable. 6 mos later, It has now decided it's done showing us any kind of picture. I believe it's the tube because this happened on my other TV in the states and it was only $300 to fix.

The TV was bought off island and the owner of the house said she can't find anyone to fix it, but if we can, then go ahead. (sounds rude but it wasn't)

We just need to put the qualified person in touch with her and get an estimate.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Since Glentronics closed I havent been able to find a tv repairman. Mikes will only fix tv's you by from them that are under warranty. So if anyone knows anyone I loved to hear about it too. Had to swallow losing a very expensive tv that was only 3 years old.

We bought our TV in 1985 and it still works well. It's mostly used to watch DVDs as we really only get NBC. When the moon is in the seventh house and Jupiter aligns with Mars we can get a bit of CBS but then it's usually something like Telenoticias from Puerto Rico. We have never paid for TV reception (dish or cable) so we don't have a pressing need to upgrade our TV, and fortunately have not experienced the disappointment of losing a young, expensive set. I would think television repair would be a lost art and even more difficult given the near abandonment of cathode ray tubes.

In answer to your original question, there is a gentleman in Smith Bay who has worked on several things for us.

He is in the same mall-like area with the Texaco and a Feed Store at the bottom of the hill.

Sorry, don't have the name but he is great.

VI Office Machines 774-4574. They'll come out to you and, if necessary, take out the TV, fix it and bring it back. Excellent service, great people, very reasonable.

Hi to all..... I sure would love to help you with your T>V> troubles. My husband and I are dying to move to STX just haven't gotten there yet. Still have 13 year old and concerned about school.... But... My husband is a self-employed T.V. (electronics repair man.) When we move he is planning on continuing with the repair business. I am sorry for your situation but it is nice to hear that there is a need for this type of work. I know that I don't live there but all i can think about is why would you want to be inside watching t.v when there is all of that beautiful scenery to look at outside.....LOL I will let you know when we get close to making the move. Candy

Yeah, I don't get it and Candy has a good point. Why with all that beautiful scenery would you want to waste time watching TV.

I tell you that if I was living there, I'd be enjoying the sunsets, the beautiful rain forests, the beaches and just all the great ambiance of the islands. That's what I'd be doing. Off work and to the beaches. Much more inner satisfying than watching the TV

But I guess like everything else it's different strokes for different folks.

The sun does actually go down eventually. Can't see much or go trekking around in the dark then.
