The reality is most tourists are just looking to relax and let loose a little, the island’s history is not on their radar screens.

No question the islands have had a tortured history but that in and of itself is essentially the same as almost anywhere on earth if you’re a student of history.

St. John today is largely the beneficiary of the generosity of the Rockefeller family.  Who were both brutal robber barons and pioneering philanthropists.  History has an almost infinite number of variables and societies today are the product of this process of often painful evolution.

The one thing that is absolut, human beings will never reach a steady state of perfection.
