Hi!
Im a student at Plymouth State University...WAY up in cold Northern NH! I'm spending my spring semester(yes a whole semester) 2005 at the University of St Thomas as an exchange program.
I was wondering what things i should be aware of being a small town girl from NH. Ive read up on the crime, but maybe an islander could give me a better perspective.
Thanks!
~Kim

Hello Kimberly,

If you are staying on campus you will have an immediate support network of other students that are new or just other students. The campus is safe, not a party school, beach is close by, small class sizes.

There is partying on the island if that is what you are looking for. If you like the water definately get into some watersports while you are here, diving, snorkeling, boating.

Not a good idea to walk outside of campus at night, or down by the beach by yourself at night. When you are out at bars or out at night be aware of your surroundings particularly if you go out alone; good idea to go out with other folks.

Any particular questions you had; you question was a bit open. 🙂

One thing that I have heard is that the exchange students take their classes pass/fail. This tends to encourage exploration of the island's uh, nocturnal entertainment industry and experimentation with the local rum production... The regular UVI students will be happy to indoctrinate you, but may step back and let you solo as they have to study! The school is pretty small, so the students seem to know each other, at least by sight...
