The phones work but VZ doesn't offer service here so you will be roaming. Whether that entails fees or not is probably dependent on your plan. Choice wireless has a deal where you can roam their phones on Verizon in the states so the deal may now be recipricol but since I'm a customer of neither (I use Sprint) I can't say for certain.

Long term if you are going to live here you will want to switch to either AT&T or Sprint most likely.

I know for my Verizon roaming down here on STT when I first moved down, voice was roaming at $2.00 per minute, while data was non-roaming.

That was a few months ago.

Good Day,

Verizon does work in STX and pretty good coverage. But expensive----Verizon charged me roaming and for text message despite my unlimited plan for calling and text. Total $1,000 extra charges for month of Nov 2009 despite Verizon rep. telling me as long as I received the call, I wouldn't be charged.

After getting the bill, I contacted Verizon to dispute. Has the Verizon store Representative name and date I visited for information prior to coming to STX. It didn't matter, Verizon told me the person made an error and it was my responsibility, as it is in the fine-print of the contract. Verizon did offer to credit me $500 of $1000 of charges and prorated the other $50 dollars a month.

I dropped it and still fighting Verizon to credit my old account .

Your best bet in buy one of the ATT go phones at Radio shack, Best But, etc....Usually like $20 bucks(no contract), and get unlimited talk and text for $60 for a month while your in the Virgin Islands---total of $80 . And in my opinion and many other , ATT is the best service in STX.

Good Luck
