When we stay at Coakley condos on the east end we can't get reception at all with Verizon. We have to drive back to Cheeseburgers to get reception. We've had roaming charges everywhere we've used our phones on the island. Someone over on TA said they had friends recently stay on St Croix who were charged roaming charges but had normal texting charges.

You might want to call Verizon before you make any calls.....I have Verizon...and they charged me $2 per minute...for a whopping $600 phone bill for 2 weeks on the island.

My understanding is there is NO Verizion service in the VI other than roaming. If someone knows differently, I will stand corrected. Currently, we have AT&T, Sprint, and Innovative. (Maybe Choice? I dunno. I stick with stateside companies.)

I believe it will depend if you have an Alltel or Verizon plan with VZW. I have an Alltel plan and I am never charged anything add'l for any calls made from there.

As for service, we were a Chenay Bay, and it worked there, but nothing east of there.

I believe that was me on TA. Our friends called Verizon before they left PA and that's what they were told. The had a roaming icon on while they were here. But used our ATT phones to call home for free, so we don't know if the quoted charges were correct. They did confirm after they got back that they weren't charged for their texts. Our house is near Cheeseburgers and they had no problem sending or receiving texts from here.

Hey, aparrot, who do you talk to for 5 hours on the phone over 2 weeks? When you're on island?

I handle business calls wherever I am...I sell my products in several countries....and sometimes when someone calls..to order something and I know I don't have the material to produce the product....I don't want to wait until I get home to order... sometimes some of my products are really moving...so there is a lot of inquiry about the product...it really is not hard to rack up 5 hours of business calls over a 2 week period. I make over 500 products...and adding all the time...right now working on Hook bracelets for my outlets on St. John and St Thomas overseeing the embroidery on a line of hats....and designing t shirts to be printed next week......the work never stops......and it is Gparrot not Aparrot

When I moved to STX, I had to cancel my Verizon service and change to AT&T. As others have mentioned, Verizon doesn't have any plans available on island - you're actually roaming the whole time for $1.99/minute minimum.

I was really annoyed with them - I was a good Verizon customer for over ten years but they still made me pay the Early Termination Fee because "they DO have coverage on STX" - which is true, they have coverage for $1.99/minute! (td)

I sucked it up and paid it, and have been very happy with my AT&T service. For the most part I get a signal all over the island for cell service - data can be spotty but it's good where we are.

There is no plan on Verizon where you won't have to pay the International roaming rate on STX, so I'd suggest being judicious with your talk time!
