Veterans' Day Celebration Today

Veterans' Day wasn't really on my radar today, because I get annoyed with closings.

I happened to have been in town today when the festivities started so decided to stick around because I love parades.

You can't appreciate the honor of living here if you don't attend civic events.

I heard visitors cheering for school bands marching and playing in tropical heat. Those students learn valuable life skills performing in bands.

The veterans also got their recognition from the community. Small communities in the U.S. often send more troops per capita than other areas so losses are more painful to the community. Most often military service is the best option for those with limited means living in small communities.

We should remember to honor them at every opportunity.

I got to sweat for 4 hours in the sun, do a little marching and drink a lot of water.

It frankly blows me away that they make actual vets march on vet.s day, every other military organization I've been involved with gets a 4 day weekend, I had to work this weekend then half of today.

I'm making up for it with copious amounts of rum (to replace the fluids I sweated out on the short march).

it was nice to see Home Depot handing out free water to anyone that wanted, great corporate presence by them IMO (plus one of my friends Bobby (formerly captain of the Parasail boat) was the 'water boy' and it's always good to see him)
