Heres another thing that is shameful:

Recently we had a plane in New York land in the river due to hitting birds.

Now for years the FAA has been fining and threatening VI Port Authority due to the location of the Anquila landfill simply because it attracts birds to the airport area (and it stinks and is shameful for our new arriving guest to smell that).

We are going to be real shamed when a plane crashes into Hovensa due to a bird being sucked up into a jet engine; a bird that we have repeatedly been warned about.

I can see St Croix folks on CNN now. Everyone pointing the finger at someone else and still nothing getting done.

FOLKS move the damn dump before we have a national disaster. I know I know there is a thousand things that makes that difficult to do.

DO IT ANYWAY!

sqaw in the Avis that a Cape Air plane had to return to STX after hitting a large bird. It did not say how far out the plane was when it happened.

LOL..........isn't that the truth!

Mango...........welcome to the merry-go-round! We can get upset and rightfully so, but the truth is..............the VI is what it is. Not everyone here is lazy & alot of GOOD DECENT HARDWORKING folks do live here.............just not enough in the right places :-X
I wish oh how I wish the governor and some top aides visit STX & hit one our many ever GROWING potholes & taking out a couple cars!! Maybe then he'll make sure the road funds are used for that instead of salaries............ha ha ha ha ha ha a girl can dream!

Surely this is a mountain that needs to be made into a molehill.
But I'll bet it won't get done until Hovensa wants it done -or a plane crashes.
Then we can start burying trash in the ocean where it belongs (with all the raw sewage already being pumped there) because we have no where else to put it around here (unless we start using it to fill the potholes? hmmmmm.....)

What do you mean where it belongs. Short sighted people who have done that have ruined many oceans, lakes, and rivers. One of the reason many tourists come to the islands is for the diving. Trash the area and that could soon stop.
The raw sewage is a crime as well.

I don't understand how Hovensa would have any say on the VI government's landfill... I believe it'll get done when the EPA actually enforce the regulations and shut it down. Ofcourse we'll all have to pay VI Waste Managment to ship our trash off island since the government hasn't spent the effort in sighting and planning a new landfill location.

terry, I think Neil was joking and saying that it IS a crime that is constantly happening with no consequences re: sewage dumping. Has ANYBODY ever been taken to task when it happens? It's a nasty crime for sure!

it used to be ritual they dumped sewage EVERY SUNDAY into the sea and claim the pipes broke..........
We've taken gallon water jugs of motor oil left in the mangroves to SEA & they told us not their dept!
Called the EPA, health dept & several others to either have the phone just ring & ring & ring or again be told not their problem!
The road sides are filled with lovely green beer bottles, styro foam, plastic bags, tires & the abandoned cars are beginning to appear again, Does that *ahem* task force still suck money from us too for services rendered?
Ahhhhhhhhhhh island life!
