Here's a link to the halos in the Daily News for the VINow group who did the beach cleanup 2 weeks ago.

It's nice to see the VINow group in the news!

We have something here in the Orlando area that might be of interest to you. It's a group called Eco Action, and while they sell memberships at $25 or so for the year, they welcome all, members or not.

They get together each weekend, either Sat or Sun, and spend the morning cleaning a local waterway. They do it to save the wildlife (birds, etc, that can be harmed by accidently eating styrofoam and other plastic man-made trash). They may only get a half dozen or so volunteers each weekend, but they do some wonderful work. They have some one-person canoes that were donated by a local manufacturer, and they buy garbage bags and paddle out into the rivers, lakes, etc and do their thing. We went with them several times and had a ball.

One of the leaders of the group went to Puerto Rico on vacation a couple of years ago and was so appalled at the condition of the ocean at one of the areas that he actually spent part of his vacation picking up their trash.

This sounds like something you might be interested in starting in your area.

Thank you Loyal Reader for the halo!! 🙂

Teresa, I would like to have regular ones, its a worthwhile cause. And Alix you can definately participate once on island!!

John in Orlando - There are a couple groups here in the VI that do something similar to what you described. I know that they are not as active as going out every weekend, perhaps a few times a year. Its a good idea.

Thanks again Loyal Reader!
