Are any of you using VOIP (voice over internet protocol) as your primary phone? If so,.. how is it working for you? and who do you use for a provider?

hey there sky is the limit. Normally with VIOP you want good upload and download speeds as well as a good mic.

I use Magic Jack over BBVI as my landline number. No more Innovative.
It works OK the only problem is no VI phone numbers available. Mine is in FL.

Trying to dump my landline and keep my number. Cell is spotty at our place even with amplification.
Using BBVI $99 plan so that should support voice no problem. Facetime works well on it, as does streaming.

Rotor,
I thought you could keep your number nowadays...? Is that just a Magic Jack thing?

Can anyone explain the real differences between VOIP providers, If any? Plans and prices vary so I'm wondering what's the difference? Servers? Support? Clarity, Reliabilty? Or are they all basically the same, hence VOIP and only depends on your connection speeds? I'll dig around on the net but thought maybe someone on STX would know some tricks already...... I'll touch base with BBVI and see what they use.

Thanks

In order to keep your phone number the new carrier must have a point of presence in the old area code. Magic Jack does not have one in VI or PR. Maybe another VOIP provider does. I primarily use my landline number to give out to businesses who want a phone number. The area code is not important.

Magic Jack does have a few nice features: $20/year, if you do not answer call it is recorded and emailed to you, if you install the app on your iPhone or Android device then the phone call is forwarded to your device and you can answer it there, you can make phone calls through the MagicJack app on your device.

The call quality has always been good for me. VOIP does not support FAX devices. I also have the $99 BBVI plan.
