OldTart,
The Vice President of the United States of America is Guarded by the Secret Service 24/7 every day of the year as well as his family. No money out of his pocket for Safety and Security. The FBI is also a Back Up.

I do know that and my choice of wording was poor. The point I was making was in response to the poster who questioned how much the VI Government or "us" were forking out for Mr. Biden's visit.

We've got rather constant police patrols in stx areas where you normally can't get the VIPD to respond to a call in anything like real time. A VIPD tow truck has been stationed/parked (with officers) accross the main road from the house where the VP is staying...in 25+ years on stx I've never even SEEN a PD tow truck! I expect that the VIPD would naturally cooperate in insuring the safety of the VP, but will be quite surprised if the additional costs are reimbursed by either the feds or Biden, and there are costs...brief mentions of the VP's vacation destination in the US media, similar to the mentions of the Obama vacation in hawaii, would seem to me to be a good tradeoff, and indicating his destination in general terms does not have to invite the masses, but might lead some statesider to remember stx as a place to consider for their own vacation...

You all would be surprised how many people are on the island to support the safety of the VP and family. You don't really think that the VP pays anything.
This is part of the Perks as being the second most elected powerful man in the world.:-)

Compared to my experience with the Bush family in Kennebunkport Biden's visit has been very unobtrusive. Hope they all enjoyed themselves.
