Sure, weekends work best if that works for him.

The manager that got run off island was John (pretty sure that was his name). He was one of the sales managers that came in after me, his Wrangler got riddled with bullets in the parking lot. They let him out of his contract so he could return to California for safety reasons.

Here's another fun anecdote for him: In June of '08 my brother got married, I was the best man in his wedding. I had bought my round trip tickets months and months earlier, probably January or so. So the week finally gets here for me to leave, the last day after work me and the store manager went to my apartment for some beers. As we're sitting there downing a few, his phone rings and it's Rafael (DM). All I hear him say is "I can't do that." So he hangs up the phone and I ask him what's up? He says Rafael just told him to cancel my vacation and do a paid out for the cost of my ticket - I can't leave now due to business needs. Obviously that's total bullshit and luckily my SM had the balls to tell him he's not doing that.

So I go home for the wedding and the day before my old SM in Chicago called me to ask me if I'd heard about the restructure, all Sales Managers and Logistics Managers were being laid off and everyone would fight to interview for the one Assistant Store Manager job that would be left, or take the severance The DM here was going to have me skip my own brother's wedding, in which I was the best man, because he was afraid if I was home already that I wasn't going to come back and he'd have to refill my position. Great Guy!

AandA2VI -
I am a Mac lover too! But, just be aware that Apple does not ship anything to the US Virgin Islands. When I need something for my Mac or have to use my AppleCare insurance, I have to ship everything to a contact in the states, then have them ship it here.

Ouch, that does suck. Like you I have family stateside so I can always ship it to them to take to the Apple store. Bummer.

Trainwreck, - He definatly does want to chat. After just that first post he went back to saying "well just take a lesser position". Thats GOOD for me lol as he works like 60hrs here now. I want him to still get a paycheck but get to relax a bit, 12 years of working 60 hrs is pretty brutal IMO and he needs some laid back time. He will talk more with you this week. Thanks again! Just curious where did you go after OMX? I was thinking if I dont find graphic design related work that I can try management in the home depot, I wonder if thats just as bad? Ahhh retail. 😛

We have an authorized Apple store on St Thomas, techbox, and their prices are the same as Stateside minus sales tax. They do good business with cruise ship crew and locals. They couldn't dell me, though.

Radio Shack also sells some products, and sometimes gets them before techbox, but at a bit higher price point, I think.

I don't go into Office Max, often, if I can help it.
Everytime I do, however, I do not recognize the same people that were on the floor the last time I was there.
They seem to have a big turnover there but that is not unusual.

Turn over here in AZ is pretty bad too. Associates last about 3 months lol. I will say that OMX was rated #5 of the top 10 worst places to work for lol!

Annette and Yvonne have been at the STT Office Max for years, though I've known others who didn't last long. One thing I can say about most Caribbean workers here is they usually stick with a job no matter how bad until they change their situation, get laid off, or they get offered more family friendly situation or a govt job or someone gave them a definite offer with more money or benefits.

I was the one that snagged Yvonne away from Kmart 🙂

I remember a day when me and the SM came in at noon, prepped the store all the way until 7am the next day, went to my apt to shower and change and came back at 8am for a corp visit. We left when they left at 4pm that day - brutal. After I left I worked for Menards and US Cellular in management before I finally got sick of retail management altogether and went back into IT which is where I am now. Briefly ran a cafe on the waterfront somewhere in between. If you have your head on straight and are reliable you can get a job doing anything on STT. I know a few people with no experience that are raking in money working for the Marriott Vacation Club selling timeshares at Frenchman's Cove, seems like that is an easy job to get if you can do sales. As far as Home Depot goes, the hiring manager there is in his office on Mondays, you are far more likely to succeed by walking in and handing him a resume rather than filing out the online form. You have to fill it out anyway, but the key is having him remember your name. I have a friend that has a degree in Graphics Design and he's very good at what he does, but he is constantly struggling to find steady work. Could try Madmax Signs, or possibly Morris Caribbean Publications, they do St Thomas This Week, St Thomas Shopping Guide, and some other stuff and they are constantly needing photoshop psd's from me.

Trainwreck, I may need your help getting the hard drive out of my netbook. My book doesn't open like the one I saw on the YouTube video. Where are you located?

I work for Cardow. Walk in and ask for Ken, it won't take 10 minutes to get the drive out.
