I will be moving to STT in May and have many question about the drinking water system you have. I am aware there is a cistern rain water system on the islands, is this for drinking and cooking? Is bottled the way to go or is just filtering safe? Any replies will be helful, thanks, Lori

I think if you do a search you'll find this topic was discussed not so long ago. But, you can drink the water on the island. I do. Some people find it tastes funny and I suppose it could make some people ill if something funky was lurking in the cistern. Sometimes the water in some places smells just plain bad. Like most things, it just depends. I've been drinking and cooking tap water since I got here almost a year ago with absolutely no ill effects. I've been told the desalinated water tastes different than the cistern water, but I haven't really noticed. Maybe the rum has killed my tastebuds. It's certainly killed my waistline.

Buy a Brita water filter/pitcher thingee. It's amazingly effective and it will save you a mint in bottled water expenses.
