Wife and I closed on a house in Coral Bay, STJ. Sea container gets loaded 1/26 and is sailing on the 2/3 sailing. We arrive 2/1 and will start our island life. Hope to be a part of a wonderful island and get to know more people. Looking forward to a new adventure.

JRK,

My wife and I are vacillating between retiring to Huatulco, MX or STJ. Pros and Cons for both. How have y’all settled in, any regrets?

The cost of living is much higher on St John and healthcare is limited compared to Mexico.  It seems as if your retirement funds will get ya a heck of a lot further in Mexico.

@tljp it has been quite an adventure for sure. We purchased a home in Coral Bay that we knew was a total gut and redo, best part is it has 150’ of water front. We had a construction business in CT so I did all the demo and construction myself, with help from local plumber, electrician and tile installer. Replaced all the mechanical components and shipped down all of the appliances. We rented above Surf Club Cantina for 3 months while we worked on the house. It was not easy by any means but worth it when we sit on our porch and look out over the water and see Hanson Bay, East End of STJ and Norman Island BVI. I am out there everyday after work, luckily there are lots of carpenters needs here. Best of luck to you.
