Reality for those of you not here or not here full time - People here sometimes really don't go to work when it rains. Suprised the stuff out of me last year - then we just had 4 or 5 days of solid rain. I know why now. If you can get thru the water that is 5 inches at least deep covering the entire road for yards and yards - then you have the rocks *note - not stones* ROCKS and lots of mud to contend with.

For example. I knew that Southside and Southshore roads here on STX are virtually impassible in spots after heavy rain - so I went to go thru "town". You couldn't get to Junies if you tried and couldn't get to Hess Rd. because of the water. So I turn around and snake thru a neighborhood and come out Catherines Rest. Then getting thru TOWN was another adventure!

Water flowing FEET DEEP in spots - lots of spots.

Thank God this is just an unorganized couple of storms. God forbid we had wind to deal with.

But the greatest part is I can take a shower for as long as the WAPA stays on!!! (with my overflowing cistern)

I'm on St. Thomas but I took a class today from a woman who came over from St. Croix and she said she hasn't seen this much flooding on St. Croix since Marilyn.

the last time I saw this much rain on STX was in May 2005, when it rained non-stop pretty much the entire month. It opened up brand new guts through a lot next to mine as well as eroding nearly 10 feet of my yard down onto the beach before the rain finally ended. There has been a lot of rain this past few weeks and part of the dirt road into my house is a stream bed right now, but fortunately the runoff hasn't caused any significant erosion this time around. There are sections of the east bound lanes on the Melvin Evans highway that are completely covered in water, some of it well over a foot deep. The highway had sections closed off for a while when it was at its worst. It would be nice if a drainage system were worked into the construction plans for major roads, wouldn't it?

And just FYI for everyone complaining about me...I had to close the Fitness Center (at Beeston) for the weekend because of flooding also! This rain is crazy 🙂

Hmmm... my husband has a membership there and we were thinking about going there today to work out AND take showers. I'll let him know that the club is closed for the weekend.

I drove into C'sted yesterday morning for groceries (from the east end) and was surprised at all of the standing water in the roadway. Luckily they fixed the sink hole (or whatever it was) between Cheeseburgers and Chenay Bay. It's a long drive to downtown from here otherwise... 🙁

Yesterday afternoon/evening when the rains hit again, we watched as a couple cars attempted to drive up the ashpalt drive to the top area of our condo complex with the rain rushing down the driveway. They were spinning their wheels, making a lot of commotion as they went. A guy in a pickup truck just couldn't do it, gave up... backed into a parking spot and walked the rest of the way. It's amazing how much water these storms produce.
