You would think a scooter would be great transporation for St. Johna and Thomas. I read so much about the car but what is wrong with a scooter with a big basket on back?

i'll be the devil's advocate and disagree with all the scooter-haters. in my mind, the only thing wrong with most scooters is the operator. for a similar environment to st john [very hilly, sometimes wet, no shoulders, people drive like maniacs], see most of italy. scooters and italy do just fine together, as should scooters and the VI. and the huge benefits? fuel economy and space economy... ask anyone trying to park in cruz bay in the morning!

i have a few friends who have converted, and love them.

=) scoot on!

Scooterman: This afternoon it is raining cats and dogs. Water is pouring down Donkey Hill and flooding in all the regular spots in the roads. Dr Chase is a great orthopedic surgeon, but we have a part-time neurosurgeon only. Even if you buy air ambulance insurance, they will probably only ship you to Puerto Rico. Habla espagnol?

Now, now East Ender... we assume he has enough sense to come out of the rain. As to comparasion to Italy, don't know but doubt they have the pot hole and grade situations we do. A lot of our roads were "planned" by paving or pouring concrete on old donkey trails. I don't believe anyone has even sat down and discussed the best place/grade/construction of roads. Driving home in a dizzle up some of these hills (I have to cross over the center of the island to get home from work) I know all the pot holes and avoid them. Avoiding them may create a danger to a scooter rider I don't is there! Scooters also seem to weave in and out of traffic while they are driving ... you know finding that center yellow line and passing on it. Bad move here! I swerve to avoid a pot hole you don't know is there ... you are passing me on the yellow line out of my range of vision and SPLAT we both have problems we can live without! Ride one around Red Hook or Frenchtown or other neighborhoods but not a good thing through and across town!
