Friends just bought a condo on STT. They will be shipping less-than-load things from Florida--too big/much for post office, not enough for a container. I know all the players on STX, but am wondering who folks have used on STT..is there someone like a VI Cargo? Or do they have to just use Tropical in West Palm? Or Seastar with less than load? Any positive or negative experiences? I see lots of posts re cars, but they are not shipping a car.

We use Tropical shipping located in Medley, Fl. for our less than container loads. We use Consolidated freight to get shipments to Medley. The minimum charge for sea freight lately has been $80.00. Label all of your boxes or shrink wrap with labels, you must include an invoice which states the price of the goods and country of origin. You can opt out of insurance by Tropical, if you advise them before sailing.

If you UPS/Fed Ex the boxes instead of using one carrier to get it to Medley, just ask for a consolidation sheet to list the UPS/Fed Ex tracking numbers. This insures Tropical will hold all the boxes and ship in one sailing saving you multiple sailing fees.

You can go to Tropical.com to get the address in Medley where to ship to. Make sure your labels state your Name, St.Thomas, VI C/O Tropical Shipping. I would also suggest you make a telephone call and get a contact to assist you with the shipment. We've done it so much we merely email all of our documents, rarely do we speak on the phone.

It's a very easy and stress free way of shipping. Not nearly as inexpensive as the USPS but some items just won't go thru the PO. We've shipped everything you can imagine from appliances, to a car engine, to a pre fabricated concrete building weighing in at 70,000lbs.
