Im moving to STT for a few months in about a month, and getting a laptop with the standard 802.11a/b/g wireless. Will I be able to find wifi hotspots easily? If so how many could possibly be a free connection?

Actually there are several free wifi spots on STT. There's a coffee shop on the second floor of American Yacht Harbor that has free wifi; not sure if the coffee shop pays for it or the building does, but it's fast and free, plus delicious latte with a view of STJ and the BVI to match. There are even outlets for power.
Elsewhere you may try hotels, such as in the lobby of Sapphire Beach and Windward Passage.
Looks like Marty needs an upgrade...
