Flora: I am very surprised to hear recently that the travel companies are not helping with housing?? I would guess it is because there is a paucity of "stateside" quality rental property. I would first ask the travel company. If they can't help, next ask them to help you contact the person you are replacing. The travel nurses have their own little network of car rentals, housing, etc.

I have a studio for rent in Red Hook. It is on the east end of St. Thomas, about 6 miles/20 minutes, depending on traffic, to the hospital. You can find closer, but Red Hook is a great place to live. We have pretty much everything you need in a 2 block area and you go right by the "mall" between here and the hospital. Red Hook is very popular with the stateside transplants and locals too. Take a look at virginislandsrentals.com, and if you like what you see, contact me. Thanks

I am also surprised that the company is not setting you up with housing - I used to work at the hospital and most traveling nurses are put up in Bolongo or at Sapphire. What company are you going through? I know it can sometimes save money too if you're finding your own place depending on your housing allowance.

I'm just moving into a new apt on the east end and I'm looking for a housemate to share 2bdrm/2bath apt for short or long term (large apt, dishwasher, washer, garage). It's just off the safari route, so no car needed to get to the hosp - I'll be working right behind the hosp so could carpool depending on your shift.

If you have any questions apt or hospital related let me know!

I too am an RN, and I am planning to start travel nursing in the next few months, through AbettaCare, and ST Thomas is one place I am seriously considering. I have gone to hwyhypodermics for forums about the hospital in St Thomas but I am getting very mixed reviews. Could you kindly keep me posted on your housing situation (AbettaCares says it has housing in Redhook, but not sapphire village., which I heard is nice..) and most importantly, on the hospital itself. The islands may sound attractive-especially from this Alaskan, but if the hospital is bad, I may choose another spot. Thanks.
