FAREWELL TO THE POSSE

Just a handful of you make up this elite group along with a couple of hangers-on who bravely pop out to add their little comments which they wouldn’t dare do unless you got the ball rolling.

First it was my immigration status which was a huge issue for one poster. She couldn’t understand not only why I’ve never become a US Citizen but she knew nothing about immigration laws or status. Her continual digs insinuated that my resident alien status provided me a break on taxes and that social security benefits were given to me but not contributed to by me. She also firmly believed that a legal resident alien who was not a US citizen should never under any circumstances be permitted to make any political commentary either on a local or federal level. No matter whether I was adding to a thread on tourist sights or bread-baking, she insinuated snide comments on one of these two issues. Her continual barbs only abated when the forum moderator finally stepped in.

The food stamp issue was the final straw. Due to circumstances beyond my control I was, a few months ago, forced to apply for the SNAP program and related my application experience in response to a thread which was started on the subject. Almost immediately, my recounting of the experience was challenged by one of the posse who alleged he had once received food stamps but his experience was completely different. In other words, that for some bizarre reason I was falsely claiming I’d been reduced to circumstances necessitating social service assistance. So intent was he on cutting me down that he never did admit that his experience with the program was stateside and not here …

The thread was recently updated by another of the posse who questioned why/how I could still have satellite TV and internet DSL service while collecting monthly SNAP benefits paid for by HIM as a taxpayer.

I worked full time for 50 years straight from 16 to 66 and, when I closed my 16 year business in 2011, I had every intention of continuing working since one simply cannot get by on Social Security alone (for which I became fully eligible in December 2011 for those who are counting). My whole world turned upside down when an accident occurred over which I had no control. My savings were quickly depleted in the ensuing year, my injuries prevented me from working, and I’m in constant pain every day. Physically active all my life, I’m slowly learning to adapt to and accept my limitations. Always the optimist, I’m confident I’ll get back on my feet again and will be able to reduce my burden on the system by not needing that monthly $101 in food stamps.

No need to waste your time responding, dear posse. I have no doubt whatsoever you have many more barbs to throw but on this note I’m logging out of the relocation section of VINow. I have more than enough worries and problems to keep me well occupied every day and your continued insults and insinuations only take away from the time I devote to looking on the bright side.

Have fun kicking around someone else and congratulations on your successes in turning away so many (both old and new) from these forums.

When you make a statement or an allegation you should be prepared to back it up. You have a history on this board of making statements and when you are asked to back them up you dont. Some people are here to gather info, and some people are here to have spirited discussions. You have given alot of valuable information on various topics on this board. You also have said things that are your opinion, but you seem to like to say them like they are a fact. It is important that the people on here looking for real info get the real facts.

Here is an example...originally you said the food stamp apllication was very difficult, but you did not give any reason why. That was your opinion but the way you said it was to inform people that had never applied that it was a difficult process. I disagreed with your opinion, and related my experience and my opinion was that it is not difficult, but I explained why I felt that way. Eventually you gave details on your experience. There was very little difference between our experiences. The biggest difference was in our opinions of the process. You felt that waiting in the office for extended periods of time and having to gather required documents was a difficult process.

So now when someone looks back on that thread they have all the info they need. They wll not be left wondering why Oldtart said the process is difficult and can decide for themselves. Thats all I was trying to do.

there is only a certain amount a person can take before they walk away. there have been a few that have been beyond badgering.
sometimes we do go to far with what we say and don't think about what that does to the other person. I think sometimes we all get a bit carried away, but an apology might go a long way.
i have always enjoyed her wit and that will be missed.

You are correct. An genuine apology would be a step in the right direction... Too bad she never took accountability for all the hateful remarks and thinly disguised insults. I suppose it's just easier to point the finger and lash out then to respect the views and experiences of others. Let this stand as a lesson to those who wish to employ insults and caustic comments rather than well intended advice and considered opinions to prove a point.

Anna is a valued member of the local community who has often been vilified on this board. She will be missed.

Having a discussion on whether people agree or disagree with topics OT participated in and the tone of her responses and that of replies to her comments isn't particularly productive.

Taking time off is usually a good thing when someone feels a need to do so. If a board user feels the need to take a break or to stop participating, then they should do that. Its a decision based on how they feel in general and in regard to the enjoyment they are getting, or not getting, from discussions.
