Thank you, Daniel,

Dance of the Whales - to me - depicts the fortunes of freedom that all living creatures, great and small, should be given to enjoy.
The true nature of the Swan is one of tenderness, gentleness, caring, and beauty for us to behold. The male will protect his mate and offspring; but so will we protect the children of our own species. I have been especially bonded with the swan for over twenty years in helping all wildlife.

Thank you for your kind words, Daniel.

I'm not sure if Swan had posted this before but I came upon it yesterday. Great views from the ISS.

G'evening everyone,

Anyone interested in a little Brain Teaser?

You have six pairs of black gloves and six pairs of white gloves in a drawer. In complete darkness, how many gloves must you take from the drawer in order to be sure to get a pair that match?

Have fun!

I immediately changed it to 13. I originally didn't consider left and right.

I had already changed it before you posted.

However if you can tell left from right in the dark then the answer would be 8.
If you pull 7 left gloves then a right one you will have a match.

Rotor: Congratulations! 13.

You could possibly take out 6 black left hand gloves and then 6 white left hand gloves, the next one would have to be either the black right hand or white right hand match.

Shall we try this fellow and his socks?
Swan

Mismatched Joe is in a pitch dark room selecting socks from his drawer. He has only six socks in his drawer, a mixture of black and white. If he chooses two socks, the chances that he draws out a white pair is 2/3. What are the chances that he draws out a black pair?

Right, Daniel!....Congratulations!

He has a ZERO chance of drawing out a black pair.
Since there is a 2/3 chance of drawing a white pair, then there MUST be 5 white socks and only 1 black sock. The chances of drawing two whites would thus be: 5/6 x 4/5 = 2/3 . With only 1 black sock, there is no chance of drawing a black pair.

Here is one I came up with on my own:

You have a combination padlock with four dials on it. Each dial has the numbers 0 through 4 on them. The lock can have as many 0s as dials, and is set to 0000 by default. The lock does not allow you to use any number between 1 and 4 two or more times in the combination. The following combinations are valid: 0123 1234 0103 0010 4031. The following combinations are invalid: 0113 4014 0202 4444. How many possible combinations are there?

I didn't answer it, but one of the answers I got was a solution that uses Pascal's Triangle as part of the solution.... I think I posted this here earlier?

G'evening,
Is anyone interested in a few science related questions?

1. In the Western Hemisphere, what landmark is the Easternmost point of the United States?

2. What is the fastest moving creature on Earth? (Please reserve this question for JJ).

3. What planet in our solar system has hurricane force winds, yet the winds are blowing at a speed of only 4mph? Why?

4. With a temperature of 5000 degrees F - as compared to our Sun @ 10,000 degrees F. - and 10,000 times denser than Sol, define this "Dainty Star."

5. Which planet in the solar system has no magnetic field?

Have fun!

Yes, JJ. It is the Peregrine Falcon whose speeds have been clocked at 250mph!
Good for you!
