🙂

I am hung up on the word "event". Weathering, rain, heat, freezing? Weather is an event. Then there are animals such as earthworms, snails, insects that futher break down dead organic material. Composting? That is physical.

Ah! I understand the confusion I am causing and I apologize Tam. The "event" refers to weather. When it (the event ) occurs, it causes a physical/ chemical alteration of the molecules and in these altered states, nature can now utilize them to supple/ seed the soil with nutrients.:-) To expand: This particular event is only one contributor to seeding the soil; there are other important processes which are also responsible in supplying soil nutrients and they are not dependent on this one particular specific event. 😀

Lightening

Bingo! Lightening. Very well done!

(See Nitrogen Fixation):-)

#3: Anything within 10 light years will be vaporized.
Indeed. This character is a relatively new and recent find, such that only about 20 or so have been defined as being one. Small in size - about 10 miles in diameter - it is SO massive that a teaspoon of it will weigh about 100 million tons. Anything THAT compressed will contain a mind-boggling amount of energy; deadly and dangerous energy.

No, it's not the "pulsar" that is a neutron star which spins at higher rates; this character spins slowly - about one revolution/ 10 seconds.

It contains an exhorbatant amount of magnetic power.*-)

Should have guessed that one right away. My gardens in Virginia loved a good electrical storm.

#3 magnetars?

http://www.space.com/755-origin-universes-powerful-magnets.html

Yes, Magnetars! Good going (tu)

#1: Almost a planet; almost a star : A Brown Dwarf Planet.
#2: Breaks molecules to seed the Earth with nutrients : Lightening.
#3: Anything within 10 light years of it will vaporize- Magnetars - due to the extreme emissions of x-rays and radiation.
#4: 10,000 X greater than on Earth : Lightening storms on Saturn.

Congratulations! And thank you everyone! Well done 😀

This question is for Swan and only Swan. From JJ aka Joey

Who lives in a pineapple under the sea?

Hi JJ - aka Joey, my best young Friend,

Who lives in a pineapple, huh? And under the sea*-)
Let's see: I think that coral is sometimes referred to as pineapples, but that's not helping me very much.
Ummmm.
My guess has to be some type of fish? It has to be able to breathe underwater, right?
Does this character like pineapples? But, pineapples don't grow under the sea, do they?

I don't know of any fish or sea creature that lives in a pineapple under the sea.
You have completely stumped me, JJ.:(tu)
Congratulations! So who lives in a pineapple under the sea?
Ms. Swan

Hint: Does live in the sea. Is a cartoon charcter, not real. Male, and his best friends are a starfish and a squirrel. He is shaped like a square. Not a fish. He loves crabby pattys! He works at the crusty crab and works for Mr. Crabs. There is an octopus named squidward who is terribly annoyed by him. The friend squirrel is a scientist like you. He goes on amazing adventures and is very funny but my mom hates him. Who is he?

You can google it. That's what mom does. She really knows nothing about space things but she is a great research person.

swans, no comment on this month's "blue moon"? 😀

Yeah, I know it's akin to the old "month of Sundays" routine and a real "blue moon" color-wise only occurs in very extreme circumstances but isn't it worth a mention nonetheless? After all, you ARE the sky maven here and I really do enjoy your contributions!

Yes Swans, tell us about "blue moons". One of my mothers favorite sayings. Once in a blue moon. I enjoy your contributions as well.

Sorry about JJ aka Joey. I do humor him occasionally when it comes to Ms. Swans.

Hi Joey,
Ah! I think I have the answer: Harry Potter? I recall he went to school at Hogwart. 😀 Thanks for your great and awesome hints!

For local stargazers. In addition to the VLBA Radio Telescope located on the east end of St Croix we also have in our neighborhood the largest single dish Radio Telescope on planet Earth. Arecibo in Puerto Rico. Just wanted to share some pictures.

You might want to turn down the sound for the first video, lots of rotor noise.

This is the VLBA on STX

Pictures from a trip to Arecibo

The album is here: http://s215.photobucket.com/albums/cc296/cruzanrotorhead/Arecibo/

Good evening Stargazers - Mark your calendars:

Star of Bethlehem? Jupiter and Venus converge in night sky.

On Tuesday evening, June 30, Jupiter and Venus will converge and create a dramatic 'star' in the Western sky after sunset says NASA. Sky & Telescope suggests that a similar rare conjunction of Venus and Jupiter may have been what's been called the "Star of Bethlehem" in 3-2 BC.

So where and when should we look for it? Look to the west-northwest as soon as it gets dark, says Dr. Hartigan of Rice University. "After about two hours for most latitudes, the objects will become difficult to observe as they begin to set. They are bright. You might mistake them for airplanes."

Enjoy!
