France and Russia Ban GMOs

On Thursday, France followed in the footsteps of other European Union countries—Scotland, Germany, Latvia and Greece—and has chosen the “opt-out” clause of a EU rule passed in March that allows its 28-member bloc to abstain from growing GMO crops, even if they are already authorized to be grown within the union.

i found it interesting that monsantos big move to feed the world with these still has not done that and that only about 40% of the gmo crops are even used for food.

It's the global elites trying to cull the population under the guise of helping people. Spartygrad is one of those who has been fooled into believing GMOs are a good thing.

You'd think they'd be able to genetically engineer crops, plants to thrive without the use of pesticides. Oh! There go the profits.

Lololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololol

Yeah. Better not see you eat cheese. Made with GMOs, or screw diabetics huh? Insulin is GMO. Guess what. Even the sweet potato and the monarch butterfly are GMOs which have occurred in nature. As far as culling the herd, they are doing a poor job as life expectancies continue to climb as does the population.

Actually they have created GM plants that are resistant to virus and disease. The Papaya is a GM product, resistant to ring spot virus. Without GM papayas there would be no more. They HAVE citrus resistant to "greening" which is decimating the Florida citrus industry. The patents for golden rice were given away to NGOs to fight global vitamin A defiencies. The paranoid world of Big Farma and Big Pharma are delusions of people who cannot comprehend science or choose to ignore it

While we are at it, the geopolitical reasons for countries choosing not to plant GM crops has ZERO to do with safety. This is about protectionism and maintaining their share. Thailand uses GM crops and since their introduction they now produce more agricultural products than all of sub Saharan Africa. Wow. Go figure. All theses "studies" are coming from "organic" researchers. You think maybe Big Organic has some skin in this game? I have used concentrated glyphosate for over 20 years, if anyone would be feeling the health effects it would be someone like me, not a consumer who gets nanograms of product.

Most GM crops go to feed livestock. Not directly to your table. The organic industry needs the livestock (it's their dirty little secret) to provide manure so they can "organically" fertilize.

Organic uses chemicals. How many more billions would you prefer hungry? Chemical isn't necessarily bad. Did you ever take a chemistry class? Life is chemicals. Literally.

I knew what you meant, but my point was the Green Revolution which involved the use of my specific ad precise fertilizers and pest controls was and is responsible for feeding billions.

No one says it has. It is better than it would be without use of fertilizers and pesticides.

And you seem to believe all GMOs have glyphosate resistance. They don't. You are also assuming non go down not use herbicides, they do. A lot. Just not round up. Actually more acutely toxic chemicals.

What is needed is to stop the use of toxic chemicals to grow food and other crops which also gets into water supplies. GMO or not!
