What bank on St. John would you recommend for every day banking?

You have three choices -- Scotia (at Marketplace), FirstBank (in town), and Merchants just opened their branch at Greenleaf Commons. You'll want to compare what each of them has to offer to see what works for your needs. Scotia is not a U.S. bank and does not offer FDIC insurance, if that matters to you.

I use Merchants and so far they have been great. Always friendly and the have a night drop box at connections, you do have to pay for that though. First Bank is in a very convenient place but always busy, and long lines. I have to agree with FDR, check out their websites.

I opened a personal checking account with 1st bank on October. 7th As of today I am STILL WAITING for my order of check blanks. They had given me a few temporary blanks when I opened the account, but those are long gone and they "can't" provide any more. Trying to open a business account in the name of an LLC with 1st bank became such an ordeal ( they were asking me for forms that they themselves could not show me copies of, tell me who issues the forms,or even why they were needed) that we went to Merchants.....what a difference! Had the business account up and running in no time and have the check blanks and everything else needed within a matter of days.
