Any car dealerships or reputable folk to buy a car from there. Have been trying to decide which might be the best way to go, ship a car, convertible, truck or mini van, or buy or rent something else, seems shipping is expensive, insurance may be a problem and/os expensive. I know we need a car, any good rental places around til I get the right idea as too what to do? Thanks

insurance is not expensive on St. Croix - at least not for liability only which is the minimum you need. I'm under 25 and pay $300 a year for car insurance. i have my car insurance through Guardian currently and have used Marshall and Sterling in the past.

Dealerships are expensive, sometimes you can get "previously owned" from the dealers but they seem to make them look pretty and not deliver a quality car. my opinion, though. there are cars in the paper to buy - mostly SUVs which is good to have for the roads, not good for gas prices. They are all pretty expensive. You're not going to find a car down here for less than $5,000 and that's for cars that need help or are from the 1990s. Steer clear of any vehicle that says "great island car" - they're junk.

It might be worth shipping your car here using one of the transport companies. VI Cargo usually has good rates for other items, you can get a quote here http://vicargo.com/.

I have to agree on the ins and other stuff said... and the some of the roads... not nice... pound for pound you can't beat a good solid stateside set of wheels... plus parts are sometimes a real pain in the... to get shipped in sometimes and the wait time... uuugghhhh...

Also, if you break down somewhere like the beast or point udall you not gonna have a good day...

If your gonna ship... I hear Chevy and Jeep parts are sometimes in stock... not sure about Ford... my nissan can be a nightmare sometimes...

As far a rentals... your gonna get raped... you'd be better off shipping... you may want to get Lee Flemming to do all the paper work when it gets here... it can literally take all day...

I had a very good experience with Metro Motors on a Suzuki Grand Vitara. Shipping is expensive, and a huge hassle with red tape and customs. They tax you on everything. I just don't have that kind of time to deal with it. See Fred or Loraine Esannason at Metro- he'll take good care of you.
