We are moving to St. Croix in February. In desperate need of a place to rent for up to 6 months. If anyone knows of anything please let me know. Thanks! (I may move to St. Thomas if I can't find a place in St. Croix in time, so either or will work).

I will also be in need of a car, but figure that can wait till I get there.

You might try calling Ocean Terrace in Orange Grove on St. Croix. 340-773-6901. They seldom have one bedrooms available, but they may have two bedrooms. This is a clean, gated community with pool and workout room. All units have washer/dryers.

It will definitely be easier to find a place once you are here and start telling everyone you meet that you are looking for a place. Plan on having enough money to rent a hotel room or something for a short time while you find a place to live.

Thank you very much for your advice! You are probably right, I'm sure thats the way most things work out. Just by getting there. I was wondering if you had any opinion on St. John? The reason we are thinking about it is because it will be closer (I believe) to the British Virgin Islands. We want to be able to visit there alot.

Some people can find housing prior to arriving on-island and others are best off waiting until they get here to look in person. It depends a lot on your price range for monthly rent and what kind of property you are seeking. Rentals handled by property managers tend to cost upwards of $1K per month (sometimes a lot more than that) and can often be arranged prior to arrival. Lower priced rentals are typically apartments or guest cottages attached to someone's home and handled directly by the landlord. These landlords want to meet prospective tenants in person before making a deal. The housing market is pretty tight in February, so plan to pay a little more and to look a little longer to find what you want. There are more vacancies from May to October and rental rates may drop a little to fill units during those months.

St. John is an extremely expensive place to live, but if you can make it here, it can be well worth it. St. John is closer to the BVIs than St. Croix, but St. Thomas is just as close and seems to be a more popular choice than St. John for people moving down from the states. Good luck!

We have decided to rent in either St. Thomas or St. John mainly because of the easier access to all the islands and the BVI from there. If anyone knows of rentals in either of these places please let me know. I know it's the worst time of year to be looking. Can't hurt to put this out there though, you never know.
