The hardware store at Gallows Bay (STX) has a 10 K gen sets that run on propane for $3k. That's a good deal and will power most of a house.

I would have but two generators were stolen from my storage container... one a 3500W 110v with briggs OHV engine, the other a 5500W 110v and 220v with wheels, ... unfortunately the paper work was also in a cabinet that was stolen too. So beware of street deal...

Sure, it will power a house. It's actually about 11.5k running on Propane. There's no natural gas here. Here's the snag: I did the math. It will run a little over 2 days on 120 gallons of propane, the big 500 lb. tank. It uses 2.1 gallons/hr. That's almost $500 for 2 days. Also, 2 days after a big hurricane do you think SGS will be driving around delivering propane? I doubt it.

Your best bet is Cost U Less. They have a 6000 watt gas portable for $650. It will power everything you need. Line dry your clothes instead of using an electric dryer.

I have a brand new generator in a box that my mother sent me last spring when I didn't know I'd be moving out of my house. I just have to figure out what it's worth before setting a price
