Good evening, I currently live in the States and am moving to STT this summer with three friends. We have connections for jobs but are worried about places to stay. We have heard that you can find guest houses for rent that are on the main property of another home. Does anyone know how to line up a place like this before arriving on island? Please help! Thank you!

There really is no way to rent such a place until you are on-island. Well, amybe if it was a "friend of a friend" situation, but even then, you'd want to see the place befoe you committed. Find a cheap hotel for a week and look when you get here.

Also, apartments are almost always part of a main house- may or may not be free standing. You really should, as Linda J so wisely advised, stay at an inexpensive hotel or a place like Villa Fairview while you search for a more permanent place.

In many cases the guest houses on estate properties are rented at a less than market price because they include a caretaker, gardening, maintenance, or other responsibilities. The likelihood of a new arrival landing a position like this is extremely low. Generally the owner will require on island references and an understanding of island know how from the tenant so they can fulfill the work that justifies the reduction in rent. Having 4 people who are new to the island renting a guest house on an estate under these usual conditions is an unlikely plan.
This is only my opinion - many things may work in your favor that are unknown to me.
