My husband & I are considering moving to VI to live on a boat. Can anyone give any advice on a reputable place to buy a good used boat & a marina that will rent a slip monthly or annualy? Would appreciate advice from anyone else living on a boat in VI.
Thanks,
Vickie

The dockage & electric will be nearly what it would be for a very small apartment(which most boats are anyway).
And you`ll be stuck with the repairs/maint.
If you rent, the landlord will be responsible for the repairs/maint.
It only makes sense to anchor out, carry your own water, generate your own electric if you want to live on a boat.

Living on a boat here for a non-cruiser is usually temporary and short term - unless you can move the boat and enjoy that part of it - including the hurricane season problems and destinations available to you, the disadvantages are numerous - living on a dock has privacy and safety issues as well.

Vickie-

I lived aboard my father's sailboat for the first 4 months I lived here in STT. IMHO, it is not a life that many women, myself included, enjoy. Try it out for a week on a bareboat charter first, to see if you can deal with marine showers, marine heads, compact living space, etc. I hated it and won't do it again, even short -term.
