I recently accepted a transfer in my job and will be relocating to STX on July 23. Will be living on STX indefinitely (hopefully years to come).
We won’t be bringing much with us initially, so probably need a place that’s semi-furnished! Also, this is a HUGE move for us so looking for something with reasonable rent. Having lived in a very old farmhouse on 60 acres in Washington State for the past 20+yrs, we are both capable and willing to do fixer-upper/maintenance type of stuff. We’re not necessarily into the “condo” life but if that’s what it has to be for a while – we’re willing to adjust.

Please let me know if you have something to offer to a "rusty" couple from rainy Washington!
thanks all,
Lori & Bill

just a little more on us....

I’ll be working in Christiansted and hubby is, well….. not sure! He is a tree climber here in WA and I know there’s not much call for tree climbers in STX. He’s hoping to find something to occupy his time such as brush clearing, general maint., cooking, … whatever it takes .. he’s ready to hang up his climbing gear, but will certainly be bringing his chainsaw with him. It’s kind of like a “security blanket” for him after carrying it around for 40 yrs!

I did a brief visit in May and liked the Cane Bay area. But it seems that no matter what part of the island you live at, you are never very far from anywhere else. Our budget will be tight for the first few months, $800-$900 per month rent would be good. It will be pretty much like starting all over again for us - - we’re not bringing many household items, so will need to buy most everything. We will have a car tho!

No pets. However we are casual smokers – usually outside w/ a cocktail! Outside is the ONLY place you can legally smoke in Washington.

We are very clean and even though Bill is a tree bum, he could go nose to nose with Martha Stuart on cleaning tips!

Looking forward to hearing from and meeting folks on STX.

Hi Lori,
Please take a look at my website. http://www.virginislandsrentals.com. I have some vacancies coming up at just the time you need. And...the best part is you can go on a month to month, while you look for the perfect location, or you can stay long term. I have a one bedroom in your price range, fully equipped, linens, dishes, etc. so you wouldn't have to buy all that immediately. Would love to talk to hubby about some tree work! Please PM, email or call. Info is all on the website. 340-718-6744.

Thanks for looking.
Juanita

tell your husband to prepare himself for trimming palm trees. Lots of people need this service or want someone to come get their coconuts down for them periodically. Tree trimmers are pretty busy at the start of hurricane season as people prep their properties to get rid of potential flying debris in case a storm heads our way.

I moved to STX from Washington State also. It makes a great climate change! I do have some rentals available from time to time and might be able to help come up with something for you down the road. Best of luck with your move!

Thanks Alexandra, I'll let Bill know his plans to retire the climbing gear will probably be put off for a little while! After 35 years of climbing trees, he was quite nervous about giving up his livelihood, but also looking forward to a change of pace. We are pretty excited about this move... after having to shovel my way to my office 5-6 times a day this past winter, I am MORE than ready to experience life without snow!
