Looking for a sport bike

Good day everyone,

I'll be moving to STT soon and I was looking for transportation. Instead of spending a lot on a car I was considering just getting a sport bike (aka "crotch rocket"). Do they exist on the island? Anyone know of where I could find one or maybe someone that has one for sale. Something like a Honda CBR, Suzuki GSX-R, or similar. Thanks for any input!!!

Good morning King,

Do a search for "motorcycle" and/or "scooter" on this board (make sure to set the date range to "all" instead of "last 30 days) for some insights into life on two wheels down here. I ride, but it's a different game down here and not for everyone.

Sport bikes come up for sale on STT occasionally, but to get a new one you'd have to ship it from FL or PR.

Good luck to you.

Doesn't that Marine store by Haulover have Yammies? Been a while since I was in there, but they had bikes, as well as outboards, when I was there last...

Marty, you're thinking of Offshore Marine, yes? I think they only have the small ones, no sport bikes.

Yes, Offshore, that's the one! Couldn't remember that name to save my life, thanks! Since they are a Yamaha dealer, I'm sure they can order any model, right? I've seen the enduros in there, never any sports bikes, but that's prolly cuz they only stock what they think will sell...not many folks lining up to buy sport bikes here...well, enduros, either, for that matter! Haha!

You're probably right that they could special-order any sport bike -- I was just thinking about what I've seen for sale there.

The dual-sports they sell are only 200 ccs -- you don't need a lot more than that here, granted, but considering the machine's weight and the steepness of the hills, those bikes feel underpowered to me. They are lower to the ground than most enduros, though, so I guess that makes them popular.

Yeah, I wouldn't recommend the ones they stock...I drove one a friend had bought...could barely get the front wheel off the ground, even dumping the clutch...very much a pooch......another friend bought a used one from the rental place across from Wendy's...it seemed sufficient....I'm gonna stick with my Sporty, tho!
