Every day this week, the St. Coix Avis has had between 20 and 30 listing for apartments. Some expensive, some dirt cheap. There is absolutely no reason someone with rent and deposit $$$ cannot find an apartment.

But the right deal will not fall into your lap. Well, not usually anyway. We grouchy ones on the message board say the same things over and over -- you have to be on island; look at the papers, bulletin boards, ask the bartender, or the guy sitting next to you, or the grocery clerk; visit the apartment before you commit; bring enough cash to tide you over.

In other words, get out there and beat the bushes. You'll find SOMETHING. It may not be perfect, but it will be a place to sleep while you get a job and look for something better. On our second day on island we saw a for rent sign while lost! We took down the number, called and within 24 hours had a place to live. It wasn't perfect, but we stayed for a year. This is the kind of thing that happens all the time. But you have to get out and look.

This is a do-it-yourself project. And you need to get out there and do it.

Sermon over for the day.
