Hi all! I am moving to STT in July , from Texas. Will be doing my pmv at the end of April. I can't wait to be on the island! I guess my biggest concern is finding a place to live?? I will be storing my stuff and just sending the essentials (clothing, a few kitchen items, bedding...etc). How do you guys feel about mailing these items via US Post Office? As I mentioned, concerned about finding an apartment... Will I be able to find something in April, for July? If anyone has any suggestions, or knows of anything available around that time, I would greatly appreciate it! (around the $600-$1000 range). Also, I am a waitress, will it be difficult to find employment? I wouldn't think so, with the abundance of bars and restaurants on the island, but I may be wrong? I have a lot of experience, very hard-working and dependable. Any insight would be great. Oh, Ronnie, if you are reading, you did say you allow cats? I will be bringing 2 (neutered and declawed), I may need to stay at the Villa for a while. Looking forward to hearing from you guys. Thanks in advance, Nessa

It might be difficult to find an apartment in April FOR July. I did my PMV in July and needed something for October and everyone wanted to rent right away. However, you will get an idea of what you want and the price range. It shouldn't be difficult to find housing in April since it is not season.
Finding a job in the service industry should be a cakewalk as well. Also, "hard working" and "dependable" are rare qualities here so you are golden! 😉

I didn't ship anything but my car. I packed three suitcases to the brim and took my laptop and dog as carry on. We found an apartment loaded with more than enough essentials, but my roommate shipped some things through USPS and had no problem.

hope this helps...

Good luck!

Jen

Thanks Jen. I will be shipping my jeep as well. I'm really looking forward to this move! 🙂 I didn't think it would be hard to find work, just needed a hint of encouragement. I appreciate it! As for the living situation, I'm sure I will find something... More questions to come, looking forward to hearing from you again :). Thanks again, Nessa

I visited in May and moved in August. I spent my time talking to people (both re: work and apartments) and getting phone numbers, letting them know I was interested. Then I went home and kept calling, asking if people had anything. I did rent sight unseen, but I had met the landlord who was a great guy and figured it couldn't be toooo bad! 😉
