Came to STX on Thanksgiving to live. Am presently staying in a condo with my adult son and small dog. (12 yer old shih tzu_) Just found out the owner needs his place now and I've been looking for a place with no luck. Need a safe quiet neighborhood and can spend around $1000.00 per month. I am 70 years old and plan o spend the rest of my life in STX. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried all the real estate companies? They all have rental agents - Rents are high right now for the season, but a long lease might tempt an owner.
Do you have any flexibility on the rent? How many bedrooms will you need?

The rental market is so tight right now that Realtors have been sending out mass emails to the Realtor email list through the MLS hoping to find a place for various people they have seeking a rental. Property Managers are pretty much tapped out on availability at this point. Your best luck will be through word of mouth. Talk to everyone you come across and hopefully someone will know someone who knows someone with a cottage or apartment vacancy for you. Rentals that allow pets are even tougher to find. Good luck!

Have you considered buying? I have a 3 bedroom townhouse for sale in Mahogany Welcome ( by Gallows Bay and the baseball diamond). Open floor plan and fenced front and rear yards. Lots of closet space, new stove, newer refrigerator, new hot water tank. New ceramic tile counters in kitchen and new tile in tub surround.
Homeowners Association fee is $400 a YEAR. Price is $149,500. With 20% down, your payment should be around
$1,000 to $1,100 a month

Mahogany Welcome is a great neighborhood. Very convenient to shopping, bank, post office and vet in Gallows Bay.

If interested, arrangments could be made for you to move in ASAP and rent until closing.
