Good Afternoon Everyone,
Moving son to island on August 8th to attend UVI. Need to find him an apartment to live in, since he was placed on the dorm room wait list. Does anyone have any good leads? I've been reading the Island Trader on-line. Can't wait to get there to see what these places look like. Thanks.

Dear UVI Mom: Didn't you post a while ago on the same subject? I think you received some very good advice from your previous post and maybe (as I think was mentioned earlier) your son should look into staying at Villa Fairview on a temporary basis until either dorm accomodation or alternatives become available.

Looking for accomodation in the islands from off-island is generally not very successful.

Really, I suggest he talk to Ronnie at Villa Fairview to arrange temporary accomodation. Cheers!

Hi UVI Mom,

One reason it is best to be here to look for apartments is because the rental situation here is not like it is in the states.

One piece of advice: Do not commit to anything long-term before you or son have seen it IN PERSON and have met the landlord in person.

Some of the rentals here are in pretty rough condition. My husband and I have been renting here since February and admittedly my standards are higher than they were when I was in college, but I think you will see what I am talking about when you get here and start looking around.

Best of luck to you, and if you have any other questions let us know :)!

Yes, I agree you need to be here to meet the landlord in person. Most people don't fuss with applications and credit checks theyjust go on the vibe they receive when speaking with someone.

I am also leaving the island and our beautiful 1 bedroom cottage behind. Sooo sad. Our place is incredible on the wonderful northside (never buy water) We overlook Megans, Hans, Inner & Outer Brass. Trees everwhere, fruit a huge front yard, wrap around deck and 1 neighbor. Two nice, quite college kids. My rent is $900 and worth every penny. I am breaking myt lease to leave so who knows maybe they'll let me refer someone.

Good luck to you.

When did you say you were going to be breaking your lease? I am applying for a position that would bring me to St. Thomas for a two year commitment. I would have to be moved by the end of the this month. Anyway email me some more information on where exactly this is located. Thanks, Cory (colalover61@yahoo.com)
