On STT for three months. Looking for reasonable car. Any advice appreciated.

A while back... about 10/12 years ago we needed a car for three months. We rented monthly from a local agency for about $900 a month. Yes we could have bought an island car for about the same amount, but we would have responsibly needed to register and insure it and then sell it to just break even.
Ya know...you can still rent a car for about the same amount today and not deal with the illegal registration and insurance problems.
Just figure it will cost you about a thousand dollars a month to legally drive a car.
