I will be relocating to St Thomas September 2009. I have been a pharmacy technician for 12+ years and would love to continue in that field when I arrive. I definitely want to utilize the time in between now and then to make connections, send out resumes and hopefully set up interviews for my arrival. Anybody have any advice or information they could share? Thanks in advance 🙂

You might check http://www.rlshospital.org/ for possible jobs. If you were a pharmacist, I'd say definitely, great need, but I don't know as much about a pharmacy tech. The health care jobs here that have shortages are the more specialized. You might also call some of the pharmacies. Calling is better than sending out blind resumes. Make the personal contact when you come down on your pre-move visit.

September is when I will be on island for good, not just to visit. I want to make as many contacts before hand. I will definitely be calling, mailing resumes- anything I can think of doing that will help with job leads.

Have you already been for a visit? You will need to make some personal contacts. Sending out resumes doesn't really work here. Many employers want to know that you are already here and understand that this is a different place to live. If you come down for a week or ten days, visit all the possible pharmacy tech employers, you will have a better chance of landing a job in September. Good luck!

I have read and know that it is hard to make contacts before being on island, but unfortunately there is no time between now and the big move for a visit. So I will do all I can to get talking to potential places before, and hit the pavement as soon as we get there. I know it's going to take alot of work on my part, especially once I am down there, but i am very willing and able 🙂
