Rent $ on STT?

I was wondering what the typical rent is a month for a 1 bedroom house/condo/apt. on STT, preferably by Red Hook? Also how much do utilities cost down there? I am from Ohio and might be looking to move down there for the upcoming winter season. So I'm trying to gauge how much money I'll need to save up. Thanks.

Hi ougrad,
Look up at the top of the page, and you will see links to lots of info, including "housing" There are average rents listed there. The list hasn't been updated in a couple of years, so expect a little higher. Red Hook is one of the highest rental areas. It's the "happening" area and very popular with young adults. Lots of beaches in the area and the ferry to St. John and the British Virgin Islands. Also Red Hook is a good area to look for a job if you're coming for the winter season.

Then go to the general / relocating page and look for the post: "WAPA Proposed Increase in Rates" started by sugarlander. The whole sad story is there. Or use the search option and look for WAPA over the last 30 days. There's plenty there. WAPA is the power company (Water and Power Authority). Our utilities are outrageous! But...no heating bills, and you probably won't need a/c during the winter.

Plan to spend a lot more in the grocery store. Our food prices are higher, actually much higher ,on a lot of things, like milk, juice and fresh produce. Even a frozen dinner is considerably more. My advice is once you figure out how much you need to bring....bring more! If you're planning to get a job, obviously you won't need as much. Keep reading this forum. You'll learn a lot.

when you get closer do a PMV and get set then. We have guest rooms for PMVers as well as budget mined vacationers. I also my have
something available. But assume that you will pay somewhere around 900-1300 for a one bedroom. 850 - 1200 for an efficency.
