Hello All,

I am moving to STJ the end of October and am doing a post move stay for about a week while I look for housing. I am looking for a 1BR apartment preferably in the Cruz Bay area that allows cats. I'm open to renting a two bedroom and getting a roommate, but would much prefer a 1BR. If anyone has any info on the best ways to find a long term rental or has a long term rental that they are trying to rent out, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for all the info.

Keep an eye on craigslist and check the bulletin board(s) at Connections.

I've been keeping a close eye on craigslist and have made contact with a few people over there. Very careful with craigslist though because of possible scams, but will be requesting to see the apartments in person first when I get there before I commit. Have read a lot about not renting sight unseen and feel that seeing the places first is a must. I have heard of this Connections board but not sure exactly what it is. Is it a message board online, or is it an actual board where people post messages? I've heard of a few boards in Cruz Bay and Coral Bay. I've also read that there is more housing on the island than people lead you to believe, but that a lot of it is by word of mouth. Is this true, or are most rentals posted on the boards? Thanks for the info OldTart.

Connections is a mail service with two locations, one in Cruz Bay and the other in Coral Bay. You'll get the hang of it all once you land and start meeting/talking to people and finding your way around!

It's right up the one way street across from passenger ferry dock in Cruz Bay. You can also enlist the aid of a realtor on STJ. Costs you nothing.

Thanks for the reply Alana33. I have emailed many realtors on the island and unfortunately all have said that they don't handle long term rentals or have pointed me in the way of Scenic Properties. All great info so far and have gather some great data points. Are there any realtors that you recommend that have been helpful for people in the past moving to the island looking to rent?
