I have been watching the rentals on St. Thomas and St. Croix for a while b/c I will be making a move soon and I have noticed that the deposits on these rentals are outrageous. Why are they so high? I understand even here they want first, last and deposit when renting and I understand the value of the rent paid but what's up with the deposits. I seen one house on a Realtors site that the rent was $1500 but the deposit was $5200. About fainted when I seen the deposit amount lol

If you are interested in that rental, you should call the Realtor. It's very possible it was just a typo.

Usually the deposits are equivalent to one month's rent, sometimes less, but seldom more.

It was probably the total a typo or total amount to move in with other deposits included, pet, etc.

But, indeed, call realtor to inquire.
