Reasonably priced in or around Cruz bay St. John? You are not looking for much are you. I don't want to sound sarcastic, but reasonable and St. John just don't go together in the same sentence. But then again stranger things HAVE happened.

But good luck, I'm rooting for you.

I didn't mean reasonable as in "cheap". I know St. John living can be expensive.

I have noticed a lot of places around the Cruz Bay are are looking for weekly rentals only, which is absurdly over I would think most people's budget. What I'm looking for is a place that offers monthly rentals at an appropriate price.

I'll be heading there with my girlfriend and we have no problem paying upwards of $2000 a month, as long as that price makes sense compared to the size of the apartment/unit/house. That's all I meant.

We are opting for Cruz Bay or somewhere close by because we wouldn't have a vehicle. I would think it would be much easier to get around the island if we were located near that area. I knew it was potentially a long shot but it doesn't hurt to try.

Ask for Marlene or Bob.
Great places close to town/walking distance but in residential neighborhood close to Frank Bay.

Just remember that your dates are for our winter/high season which is exceedingly short and the majority of vacation rentals either make it or break it during this period so you may pay more, especially if a rental is air-conditioned and utilities are included as the electrity alone could run the owner up to $1000.00 per month if in constant use. Good luck.

Are you retired, or do you have a job on St. John? If not, then I would highly recommend living in Red Hook near the ferry and ferry over to St. John to work or play. There are very very limited job opportunities on St. John unless you are a professional.

Thanks, I'm aware its during peak season. It's really the only time that would work for us, though. The two of us are definitely energy efficient... Our electric bill is around $15 a month at our home. We also have had a few heat waves this summer and haven't used our A/C unit once. So that's a non-issue. We would most likely be spending little time there, but are hoping to score a comfortable place for when we are there.

Nope, not retired. Two working, young adults. I'm 25, she's 24. Both non-smokers, non-partiers. No pets, friendly and approachable. We have no jobs lined up out there as of yet, but we are looking. We currently have the money to afford the winter without work but would like to work while we are down there.

And yes, I have been strongly considering Red Hook as well. If we can't possibly find anything on St. John that is our next option. Although I am still going to try my best to get a place secured in St. John, first. I spent some time growing up on St. John when I was younger, so it's had an impact on me. My girlfriend has never been to the Virgin Islands. I suppose I want to give her the best experience I could while we were there.

Even without use of A/C, you shall never have a $15 electric bill here in the VI where our rates are $.58 per Kwh, plus there's water usage, propane for stoves, internet connections, cable or Dish TV, etc., especially for a fully furnished rental that includes everything from dishware to linens, "in season."

You may be able to find a job at this time but most places will have staff in place, already, as it is the height of season.

Not many vacation type rentals wish to rent for a month, what they can make in a week, during the period stated and then have to make up or find new tenants just as season is ending and people begin to leave, especially when such a short season as it is here in VI.

Good Luck.

I agree with Alana. I notice you stated that you have enough cash to cover the two of you for the winter

"Nope, not retired. Two working, young adults. I'm 25, she's 24. Both non-smokers, non-partiers. No pets, friendly and approachable. We have no jobs lined up out there as of yet, but we are looking. Moving expenses will run you around $10.000.00 as a startup, which should cover rent, first , last and security, plus utilities deposits and such. So I'm hoping you have quite a bit more than $10,000.00 cash if you expect to have enough to carry you through the winter if need be.
Now, if you are handy, there is always a need for handymen, to repair screens, windows, light plumbing, carpentry (with the high humidity doors constantly swell up and stick and need to be sanded down a bit), if you invest in a weed whacker, people are always in need of having the bush cut around their homes, but most people now want monthly contracts to be signed so people try and do it themselves. Pressure washing is another big thing that could be a real benefit.

If you have a vehicle on island, you could always get together a list of vacation rentals and ask the owners if you could leave advertisement with them as a private tour guide and transporter. The renters wouldn't have to rent a car, and you would act as their driver for the day or the week and charge say $100.00 a day plus gas (just spit balling mind you).

There are a number of ways to make a buck or three if you have a willingness to work.
