Take STT, for example..."Tourism" is the only industry, so, odds are, that you will be employed in this field, to one degree or another....which basically makes this a service industry....a hotel maid, for example, making $8/hr, is going to find it very difficult to get by on $320/week...$16,640 per year, lessee....my rent is $1,500, so I've already got $18,000 wrapped up in a place to sleep! Now, obviously, there are other jobs here that pay more than $8/hr, but this kind of puts things into perspective.....but $6/gallon for milk, $3.50 for gas, $21/carton for cigs...these things add up! We don';t have much 'middle' class....the majority would be lower income...but, a waitress in a nice restaurant can walk with a couple hundred per night in tips, so she's having a much better time than the maid...

I was basically an administrative assistant in the real world. I found a job as a reservations agent at a large resort on STX. Husband was in design and construction of commerical kitchens and he got a GOOD job as the Rooms Division Manager at the same resort.

But I also have retirement income as a retired city government employee. We could not live as we do on just our 2 salaries.
