HSSTT’s First Microchip Clinic - June 25th

Does Fluffy go out for a walk and not come back? The Humane Society receives calls every day about lost and pets, and it’s heartbreaking to see these animals lost, lonely, and hungry.

When a lost pet is taken in at the shelter, we do what we can to find its owner. Until the invention of the rice-sized microchip, all that could be done were announcements in the newspaper, word of mouth, and postings on Facebook. Now, the HSSTT along with every veterinarian in the USVI, has microchip capability and electronic scanners.

This is how it works: A chip is painlessly inserted under the skin between the animal’s shoulder blades using the same method as a vaccination. Imprinted on this electronic chip is the pet’s unique identification number. That number is registered and linked to the pet owner’s contact information. The chips that HSSTT use are internationally rated for travel to various countries. Hand held scanners quickly read the identification and then the owner is contacted. Next is a happy reunion - Fluffy goes home!

On Saturday, June 25th, HSSTT will conduct our first ever microchip clinic at the Humane Care Campus (this is the NEW location, NOT the Bovoni location...the entrance is at the light to Market Square East, on the South side of the road) from 12:00 – 3:00 pm.

· Microchips will be available for cats and dogs only at this clinic.

· Dogs must be on leashes and purchase a USVI dog license ($5) if they do not already have one.

· Cats must be in carriers.

· Fees are $40 for nonmembers and $30 for members. (You are invited to join our membership the day of the clinic and take advantage of the discount!)

· Cash or checks only, please. No credit cards.

· There is no additional fee for registration, they are automatically registered with 24 Pet Watch. (Please note, if the contact information is changed, it is the owner’s responsibility to update it with 24 Pet Watch. No worries, it’s easy! For more information, visit their website at http://www.24petwatch.com/)

If you are unable to attend this clinic your chips can be implanted at the Bovoni location by appointment only, starting right now!

If your pet already has a microchip, please register their number with us by emailing or faxing your contact information - just in case your pet is lost or stolen. If your pet is ever stolen, the microchip will provide proof of ownership. Email: info@hsstt.com Fax: (321) 413-0222

Please Note: These are NOT GPS locators, they are for identification purposes only.

We look forward to seeing you and your pets on June 25th!
