Hello!
To all of you locals...I am looking to move down to the USVI for about 3 months. Though I plan I working a part time job at a hotel, I also want to do volunteer work down there. Does anyone know of any good volunteer organizations on either St. John or St. Thomas either through a church or the community. I am studying to become a teacher, so anything working with kids would be a plus! ALSO I need a roommate while I am down there to cut back on housing costs...anyone interested? let me know. Thanks guys!

Hello IslandGyal,

Try http://www.cfvi.net/; under 'What's New ' you will find a link called "Directory of Community Organizations, 2006". The pdf file contains a list of community organizations in the VI and a directory with contact information, which island the organization is on and a short description of what the group is about. Its a good directory to check out for volunteering.

The Humane Society has educational programs with the school kids to get them used to pets which you might enjoy. The kids really like enjoy it. I don't know if that's listed in Islander's link or not.

Hi,

I was doing some research on volunteer organizations. My son (a 16 yr old) is looking for opportunities to provide community service this summer. I saw your listing - any progress? I looked at the website they pointed you to and I didn't see what I was looking for.

As an example, my daughter is returning to Naples this summer to work as a volunteer at a summer camp for disadvantaged kids... she is going to school for early childhood development so it is perfect.

My son has done some civic volunteer work in the islands but only as a day or two in 3 week scuba camps....I have professional work in the VI and go there several times a year, so something there for him would be great.

Anyway, I'm sure that's more than you care to know. Back to my question.... any luck finding volunteer opportunities? If so, can you send me some info?

Thanks
